Rick Warburg is a tertiary character in Scott Sigler’s novel The Rookie. Warburg is the only other player on the Ionath Krakens who is a Purist Nation native other than Quentin Barnes. This makes Warburg an excellent foil to Quentin as he represents Quentin's cultural heritage and shows how far Quentin has progressed by the the of the novel.

Character History

While not much is known about Warburg's early life, it is known that Warburg, by his infinity tattoo on his forehead, is a confirmed Purist church member. Purism teaches that all non-humans are servants of the "low one", which is a purist reference to what Christians call The Devil. Warburg really exemplifies this philosophy especially when it comes to his fellow Krakens teammates. Warburg chooses to not associate with his alien teammates instead seeking out Purist neighborhoods and communities which have sprung up on alien worlds due to the several exoduses from Purist purges over the decades.

Physical Description

Warburg is described as being an even seven feet tall weighing in at 365 pounds. He had curly, deep black hair, light brown skin with the infinity tattoo on his forehead of a confirmed Purist church member.

Warburg's main personality trait can be summed up in a single word: Bigot. Bigotry rules Warburg's life. While he may understand that the other species are required to win football games, Warburg still sees his Sklorno, Quyth, Ki, and human-hybrid teammates as being lower sentients or even agents of the Low One. Warburg is even openly hostile with teammates like Donald Pine or the Sklorno Denver using species slurs like "Blue Boy" or "Cricket" to show his disdain for his alien teammates. This is a sharp contrast to how he is perceived by the Purist Community where he is seen as a national hero and the pinnacle of what a Purist Nation Citizen should be.

Warburg is the second-string Tight End for the Ionath Krakens. He also is one of only twenty-nine Purist Nation players in the top two Tiers of the GFL.
