Buddha City Station is an orbital station in a group of planetary holdings comprising the Purist Nation. References to station are made through several of Scott Sigler's novels, including Title Fight, The Rookie and The Starter.

Descriptions

From The MVP

It looked old. It looked … worn out. The Station’s fifty-seven decks of steel and aluminum alloy composites were lined with decorative green enamel, but also dotted with the remains of burn marks, with panels that didn’t match the original construction material, all legacies of battle-damage from the church’s endless internal power struggles.

From Title Fight

Fifty-seven decks in various stages of repair and crawling with the all-Human police in their emerald-colored uniforms. The Buddha “Greens” mostly did what they wanted to do, and if that mean beating the crap out of the satanic races, well, that’s the way it was. Unless you were in a strong gang or had the money for bodyguards, best to allocate about half your pay for the Greens.

Dimensions

Buddha City Station is a cylinder 210 meters in diameter (689 feet). There are 11 industrial decks that are 10 meters high, 45 commercial/residential decks that are 3 meters high, and one "Stadium deck" that is 24 meters high.

  • Total height (not counting end spires): 269 meters (882 feet)
  • Total width (not counting piers) 210 meters (688 feet)
  • Square meters per deck: 34,636 square meters (372,819 square feet)
  • Total deck space: 1,974,252 square meters (21,250,671 square feet)

Population

  • As of 2687, Buddha City's population is 184,881 permanent residents.
  • Population density is approximately 1 person per 100 square feet of living area (13% of total deck space is taking up by transit systems, propulsion, and life support)

History

Buddha City is a 57-deck station that orbits the planet Allah. Allah is considered to be the seat of the Purist Nation and therefore makes Buddha City an important place. Even more important is the fact that Buddha City Station is the only place in the Purist Nation where non-human races are allowed to mingle with Purists. The allowance of non-human races on Buddha City Station seems directly contradictory to the Purist Nation tennent of not mix with the sub-species, however Purists justified this allowance by dubbing it as an "outreach" effort to create interactions with the sub-species.

The station is defended by the all-human police force called the Buddha Greens. The green reference comes from the emerald colored uniforms they wear.

Description of the Greens from THE MVP

A column of Humans in green-armored riot gear walked across the bay toward the Krakens. Quentin felt his stomach churn, felt an echo of the fear he’d once known looking at men like these.

The Buddha City Station Police, also known as the Greens.

They held shock-sticks in one hand, kept the other hand on the hilt of their holstered nail guns. Those pistols fired high-density plastic fasteners, the same “nails” used for any internal station construction. The fasteners would put a nasty hole in people, would shoot through doors and most internal walls, but would bend and flatten if they hit the station’s outer hull — that little bit of physics let the trigger-happy Greens shoot at will without concern for punching a hole into space.

A white infinity symbol on a shield marked the left breast of each guard’s chest armor. Each man’s name was stenciled below that shield. The Greens wielded significant authority on Buddha City. Only the bats had more pull, but the bats rarely got involved. Day-to-day order and discipline fell to the Greens. On a station with a half-million residents, a station that included organized crime of all stripes and was the center point for smuggling throughout the Purist Nation, the Greens were known as the biggest gang in town.

Corruption

The station is seen by many as a glaring example of the corruption that exists throughout all levels of the Purist Nation government and religion. Corruption is allowed to flourish because it is very profitable.

One manifestation of this rule bending can be seen in the mix of races present on Buddha City Station. Buddha City orbits the central Purist Nation planet of Allah. It's allowed for the different races to mix on Buddha City because the Purist Nation rules state that aliens aren't allowed on Allah's surface. This is tolerated because even the radicals realize that the Purist Nation economy can't sustain itself without at least some official out-system trade.

Another manifestation of corruption on the station comes in the form of the Buddha Greens. The Buddha Greens acted more like highway men than a police force, beating the sub-species without fear of reprisal and extorting money out of the station inhabitants in exchange for protection services.

Sports Facilities

Infinity Stadium

With a capacity of 75,512, Inifity Stadium is home to the Buddah City Elite.

Tang Arena

Tang Arena is located on Buddha City Station and hosts marquis events for the Purist Nation, particularly when there are other races involved. One such well known event, was the Crusaders Promotion mixed martial arts (MMA) top title of First Templar. The Crusaders championship holo-cast is the largest event in the Purist Nation next to PNFL Championships and often brings out the Purist Nation elite, such as Stedmar Osborne of Mining Colony VI. The most well known title fight involved the 11-0 Chaiyal "The Holy Hammer" North which ended in a frenzy when he beat his opponent in 39 seconds.

Bob Laramee Memorial Arena

The Crusaders Promotion frequently hosts combat sports events at this facility on Deck 34.
