This term is used often, even by members of other races, to convey deep respect and subservience to a person (or creature) in a position of power, such as Gredok the Splithead (Ionath Krakens owner) and Kirani Kollok (Leader of the Ki Home-world Syndicate, Owner of the To Pirates).
