::This entry is for the novel EARTHCORE.

EARTHCORE was originally published in 2001 by iPublish, an AOL/Time Warner imprint. With the novel doing well as a promotional ebook, Time Warner was planning on publishing the novel. However, the economic slump following September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, caused Time Warner to do away with the imprint in 2004. Sigler decided to start podcasting his novel in March 2005, as the worlds first podcast only novel to build hype and garner an audience for his work. Sigler considered it a natural progression to offer the book as a free audio download. In 2006, Sigler was able to get EARTHCORE offered as a paid download on iTunes. Another milestone was set when EARTHCORE became one of the first audiobooks broadcast on Sirius Satellite Radio, second only to Sigler’s other novel, Ancestor.

Synopsis
Deep below a desolate Utah mountain lies the largest platinum deposit ever discovered. A billion-dollar find, it waits for any company that can drill a world's record, three-mile-deep mine shaft.

EarthCore is the company with the technology, the resources and the guts to go after the mother lode. Young executive Connell Kirkland is the company's driving force, pushing himself and those around him to uncover the massive treasure.

But Kirkland and EarthCore are not the first to find this treasure. The mountain's history reveals two centuries of disappearances, murder, and insanity.

The discovery of ancient platinum knives, razor-sharp despite lying untouched for 1,000 years, reveals evidence of an ancient culture. If the artifacts are genuine, they show a pre-historic empire that once spanned from the Southern tip of South America all the way up through the American Southwest.

Wealth and fame lie under that Utah mountain, but at three miles below the surface, where the rocks are so hot they burn bare skin, something has been waiting for centuries. Waiting ... and guarding. Kirkland and EarthCore are about to find out first-hand why this treasure has never been unearthed.
Sparkle Horse is a young adult fiction novel that was announced on April 1, 2017 by American author Scott Sigler. The novel will be co-written with popular fiction author James Patterson.

Synopsis
On the 10th anniversary of Sigler Ascension Day, it was announced that Scott Sigler would be collaborating with James Patterson in a new novel named Sparkle Horse. It will be the first novel in a new line of novels being released by Penguin Books and James Patterson aimed at young adults and called Patterson Teen. Scott Sigler will be the first author to collaborate with Patterson on this new line of novels.

The announcement included a short synopsis of Sparkle Horse, indicating that the novel would follow the romantic life of a teenage girl and her magical unicorn.

This new development was only possible because of the amazing response to the Generations Trilogy by Sigler.

Unfortunately this will delay the publishing of the wildly popular Galactic Football League sequels (book VI and VII), as well as the rewrite of EarthCore, EarthCore II: Mt. Fitzroy, The Crypt, and The Crypt II.

Character Background
The Student
Rex Deprovdechuk the foster son of Roberta and a resident of San Francisco. He is also a student at Galileo High School. This same school is the home of the members of the BoyCo gang as well as Kyle Souller who served as Principal.

Rex is frequently the target of the BoyCo gang, who has been tormenting Rex for the past two years. After a particularly rough day at school, Rex makes a beeline for home and in his distraught state of mind, forgets that the BoyCo gang members had demanded money from him. The gang soon corners Rex and he has his arm broken by the gang leader Alex Panos. Rex walks himself to St. Francis Memorial Hospital where his arm is placed in a cast and his foster mother Roberta angrily picks him up.

The day after breaking his arm, Rex didn’t want to go to school because he would be teased about his broken arm, so instead he headed for his place of refuge – Walton Square Park. On his way to the park, he remembered his dream from that evening that entailed him killing Alex Panos. He wished it was true and as he did he happened across a newspaper stand that had Alex’s murder as the headline. Rex proceeds to beat up a bum for change to purchase a newspaper and then continues his rage on a Good Samaritan that tries to stop Rex from attacking the bum. The emotions Rex feels from the fear he instills in the two men he attacks enthralls him and fills him with a new sense of power.

The King
For the majority of the story The King is a mysterious entity in the world of Nocturnal. While there were several allusions and inferences that The King may be Rex, it remains under speculation until episode 14, when Sly calls Rex directly by this name. The Nocturnal creatures believe that The King will come forth and lead Marie's Children out of bondage. To this end, Sly and Pierre transport Rex from his room at Roberta Deprovdechuk’s house to his true home, with the Nocturnal creatures.

Attributes
Name
The character's full name is Rex Deprovdechuk. However, in the world of the Nocturnal creatures he is known as The King.

Outward Appearance
From the sparse details given of Rex’s appearance, the reader can glean that he is small and slow and sometimes stammers when he speaks.

Personality
Rex demonstrates a great deal of self-loathing and low self-esteem. In school, Rex tries to spend most of his day being invisible. He is embarrassed because he stammers when he speaks and despises his teachers for calling on him. He is described hating himself for being so small and slow, hating himself for crying, hating his foster mother for making him cry, hating Alex Panos and the BoyCo gang, and hating his life in general. He also expresses the desire to hurt or kill the BoyCo members.

When he needed an escape he went to his refuge at Walton Square Park where he sometimes read or drew or just let the day pass.

Fan Based Character
The character of Rex Deprovdechuk is not named after a junkie however the author did base the character on long time junkie and MastaPimp Robbie Trencheny, whose avatar is pictured at the left. This dedicated junkie can be found as an active member on the official Scott Sigler website forums under the user name of robbiet480.

Amy Zou is an ancillary character in the novel Nocturnal by author Scott Sigler. The character is initially introduced in episode one of the audio version of Nocturnal.
TOCleft
Character Background
Amy Zou is the Chief of Police for the San Francisco Police Department and is described as serving over two decades in police work. She is also the mother of twin daughters.

In episode 4, she debriefs SFPD Homicide Detectives "Pookie" Chang and Bryan Clauser on the details of the gang murders that have been affectionately termed the "Piss Man" cases. At this time, it is also revealed that Chief Zou is concerned about the presence of the symbols at the scenes as she hadn’t seen them in fifteen years. She and Sub Chief Sean Robertson share some little known knowledge about these symbols as they consider taking "Pookie" and Bryan off the cases. It is later revealed that Chief Zou was the partner of Homicide Detective Francis Parkmeyer both of whom were the investigating officers on the Grand Park Slasher case. This is important because the rash of recent murders bear the same symbols that were left at the scene of the Grand Park Slasher murders.

Attributes
Name
The author refers to this character with only the full name of Amy Zou, there are no known nicknames. However, the character’s name is, in fact, the real name of a long time fan and Original junkie who is also known for her love of fluffy bunnies.

Outward Appearance
No specific description of Amy’s appearance is given as of yet.

Personality
In episode 1 Chief Zou is described as being a stickler for details. This is because the “Piss Man” cases were assigned to the Gang Task Force instead to Homicide, as there was no proof a dead body with any of the cases. Although "Pookie" and Bryan consider this a technicality, they know Chief Zou will not budge in it. It is inferred that Chief Zou hides little as she is described in episode 3 as almost always leaving her office door open even when discussing grim topics. Chief Zou is a commanding person, which is displayed in her chastising of "Pookie" for using a derogatory term for rape.

Character Background
Robin Hudson is the Medical Examiner for the city of San Francisco. She was once romantically linked to SFPD Homicide Detective Bryan Clauser, but had broken up with him six months prior. In episode 3, Police Criminalist Sacha "Sammy" Burzon and Crime Scene Photographer Jimmy Chang bring in the body of Alex Panos. This is the same point at which Sammy asks Robin out on a date, which she takes a rain check.

In investigating the body of Alex Panos, Robin immediately determines his arm has been torn off not cut off. Noticed 3 matching lines curving and zigzagging on the bones of the remains of the shoulder. Robin speculates that the parallel lines look like bite marks as if someone bitten and shook him like a dog shakes a chew toy.

Robin begins looking for the DNA evidence she needed to id the killer. She runs DNA analysis on the saliva found on the body. She finds signs that the killer was male but also finds evidence of Klinefelter's syndrome. She calls her mentor and former professor Dr. Stone Mason to confirm her suspicions but Dr. Mason gives her another possibility – that the killer could have been a brother and a sister. Further testing of the samples reveal a bizarre YZ chromosome pattern instead of the normal XX for female or XY for male. Upon this news, Dr. Stone Mason agrees to visit Robin to assist with the investigation.

Attributes
Name
Robin was referred to by a couple of nicknames. Pookie Chang referred to her as both Robs amd Bo-Bobbin.

Outward Appearance
No specific description of Robin’s appearance is given as of yet.

Personality
From a work perspective, Robin is dedicated and tenacious. She had a different career option available to her in the realm of research, but she stayed the with the San Francisco coroners office because she felt a calling to do something for a society that she felt, was spinning down the drain. She felt she was part of the solution as she helped police officers gin the intelligence needed in their war against crime. She felt that the data she provided to the front lines was a crucial part of stopping the killers.

From a personal perspective, Robin dearly loves her 65-pound German shorthaired Pointer named Emma. Emma is Robin’s favorite nap buddy and when Robin cannot get home in time to let Emma out, she frequently relies on her neighbor whom she affectionately called Big Gay Max.

Character Background
J.P. Harvey appears late in the story along with fellow SFPD officer Matt Hickman. Harvey and Hickman take over Officer Jason Green’s post at San Francisco General Hospital. Green was standing watch over, and providing protection for the hospitalized Jebidiah Erickson, also known as the Savior.
In the real world, JP is not a police officer. Rumors abound about his actual employment, including English professor, entomologist, firefighter, "International Man of Mystery" (fueled by the fact he's visited every continent on the globe except for Antarctica), and part-time pastry chef, however confirmation remains elusive.

JP also has the rare privilege of having his name used for a character in the novel Ancestor. In that novel, his character is named James Harvey.

Character Background
Chuck Baker is the manager of the San Francisco Assisted Living facility. Homicide Detectives "Pookie" Chang and Bryan Clauser encounter Baker when they visit the Assisted Living facility to visit Francis Parkmeyer for questioning and are later contacted by Mr. Baker when Mr. Parkmeyer was cognizant enough to answer questions.

Attributes
Outward Appearance
Baker is described as being middle aged average looking fellow. Everything was average about Chuck – his height, build, looks – all except his hairline, which was described as receding only on the left side of his head. This was such an odd feature that it caused people to stare at him.

Personality
Baker is a conscience manager of his facility. When the detectives came to visit Francis Parkmeyer, he met them and assisted them with their request. He was quite familiar with Mr. Parkmeyer, knowing that he was periodically senile. When Mr. Parkmeyer drooled, Baker was quick to assist by wiping it away. In fact, he was so quick with the towel that Baker was described as being “faster than an old west gun fighter”.
Character Background
Sean Robertson is the Sub Chief of Police for the San Francisco Police Department. In episode 4, he is in attendance at the debriefing of SFPD Homicide Detectives "Pookie" Chang and Bryan Clauser on "Piss Man" cases, along with Chief Amy Zou. He and Chief Zou seem to share some little-known understanding about these symbols as they consider taking Pookie and Bryan off the cases, however it is not disclosed what the connection is.

In episode 4, Robertson receives an email that confirms the symbols from the murder scenes were searched via the FBI's Symbols Analysis Database (SAD). After calling John "The Black Mr. Burns" Smith and confirming that it was Pookie who made the inquiry, Robertson makes a call from his cell phone to an unidentified person to tip them off about the research being done on the symbols.

Personality
From the minimal information given about Sub Chief Robertson, he appears to be a no-nonsense type of person. Robin Hudson is a character in the rough draft version of the novel Nocturnal by author Scott Sigler. The character is initially introduced in episode three of the audio version of Nocturnal.

Weapons
Robin's firearm of choice was a KelTec P3AT.
