Frank Lanza
Character Background
Frank Lanza is the current leader of the San Francisco chapter of the La Cosa Nostra (LCN) gang. Lanza's family history has deep roots in gang life. His grandfather headed the San Francisco LCN in the 1930's, followed by his own father who ran the gang from the 1960's to the 1990's. When Lanza's father passed, Frank was too young to head the gang and was sent to live in New Jersey. Twenty years later, Frank returned to San Francisco focused on taking the city back from the rival gangs, by any means necessary.
To accomplish taking back the city for the LCN, Frank revived a partnership between his gang and the members of Marie's Children with the intention of eliminating rival gang bosses and thereby weakening them. The connection between the LCN and the mercenary group Marie's Children was a Lanza family secret that helped successfully run the city for decades.
In episode one, Lanza, with the help of Marie's Children, attacks the Tong headquarters located at the LiPo Lounge. Lanza calls Johnny Yee from Johnny's wife's cell phone and eludes to the fact that Johnny's wife and child were captured and that an eminent attack is headed Johnny's way. Shortly after Lanza's call, Johnny is reunited with his family…in an underground prison.
In episode eight, Lanza met with members of Marie's Children including Tricky Dick and First Born. Tricky Dick confirmed the five hits contracted by Lanza were completed and received directions on where to pick up their weekly payment. Lanza also discussed keeping them on retainer for future hits.

Personality
From the information given of Frank Lanza, he appears to be an ambitious, resourceful, ruthless and determined man. Lanza considered the LCN gang leadership in San Francisco his birthright. This causes him to ruthlessly pursue other mob bosses with the intention of eliminating them. He revives his family's relationship with Marie's Children knowing that they are effective hit men but that they are also extremely dangerous.
Lanza exhibits a sharp strategic mind as well. This can be owed to the fact that his father insisted on Frank studying great generals such as Sun Tzu. In episode eight, Lanza can be seen weaving philosophy from Sun Tzu's teachings into his decision making process.
He also demonstrates prudence. Evidence of this is seen in episode eight in Lanza's meeting with First Born. Lanza is described as being commanding and not accepting disrespectful behavior from others, but when it comes to dealing with First Born Lanza is truly afraid and acquiesces to his commands. Considering First Born is leading the group mercenaries, Lanza exudes prudence by not inciting him.
