SIGLERinPLACE

SIGLERinPLACE is a live-streamed show produced by and starring Scott Sigler and A Sigler. When the 2020 Coronavirus pandemic forced the US into lockdown in March of 2020, Scott decided he wanted to help ease the burden of his Junkies being stuck at home by producing a twice-weekly live stream aimed at entertaining and allowing a little interaction (via the chatroom) with his viewers.

Format

Content

From the start in March through December of 2020, the show was twice-weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Beginning with the first show on January 1, 2021, the show switched to be weekly on Wednesdays. For most shows, a new custom graphic was created and used to promote the show. Largely off-camera, each show begins with the Siglers giving each other positive affirmation. Occasionally, this sweet gesture makes it onto the live show for everyone to enjoy, but is largely a personal thing. Each episode ends with an entreaty to Stay smart, stay science, and for the love of science, stay informed. The final gesture as the live-stream is ended for each show is for A and Scott to blow a kiss to the camera.

Beginning December 14, 2022, Scott did a live-reading of a weekly serial story called $lay. The story was written during the week and read live. Feedback from the junkies was solicited and incorporated into the continuing story.

Recurring bits

Some content recurs from show to show:

• Pupdates: The Siglers share pictures of their own dogs as well as pictures sent in by Junkies of their dogs (or other pets)
• Q&A: Scott and A answer questions emailed to Empty Set, or dropped into the chat room
• Potty-mouth fines: The Siglers are fined $1 per swear word; the fine is not enforced
• Siglerbrations: Junkies celebrate recent victories, birthdays, weddings, births or other things worth celebrating
• Always be eating on camera: Each show is typically themed so the Siglers can always be eating on camera, or imbibing an alcoholic beverage made by A Sigler
• On This Day: Events from the On This Day feature of the Siglerpedia are presented

Technical

The first episodes were live-streamed only on Facebook. Scott began using the Restream.io service to simultaneously live-stream the show to a variety of social media platforms, including YouTube, Twitch.tv, Linked In and others. Junkie participation is intermittent outside of the Facebook and YouTube platforms, so the links in the episode table below only have the links to Facebook and YouTube, as they have the largest attendance. The Restream.io service allows participants from every platform to have their chat consolidated into a single feed the Siglers can view so they can address comments and questions from any viewer.

Beginning with the April 16, 2020 episode, a custom graphic was produced to help promote the show. The graphics are displayed in the episode table, below.

A few episodes have touched on some very significant topics.

• June 2, 2020 was supposed to be a show, but the Siglers joined the online Blackout Tuesday movement to protest racism and police brutality
• July 2, 2020, Scott and A announced they had gotten married in a private ceremony in San Diego
• July 14, 2020 included a farewell to Grant Imahara, who passed away on July 13
• October 6, 2020 included a farewell to Eddie Van Halen, who passed away earlier that day
• December 1, 2020 guest and Sigler books narrator Ray Porter joined the show and read a chapter of Mount Fitz Roy
• January 7, 2021 guest Jonathan Maberry joined the show
• May 5, 2021 Scott Sigler revealed the Hardcover artwork for The Gangster
• May 19, 2021 guest Weston Ochse joined the show

• June 13, 2023 included a farewell to beloved OJ Bruce Press (Icepick), the official photographer of SiglerFest and most things Siglerism, who passed away on June 10.

Office Hours

On occasion, the FDØ holds Office Hours instead of a regular SiglerInPlace. Usually, this is due to competing priorities and not being able to spend time scripting content for the show. The Office Hours shows are a little more free-form, and often leverage Q&A for content. Office Hours were held on the following days:

Face Lettuce

From March 27, 2020 to April 13, 2020, Scott created a bracket in the FDØ's new CDC-approved Face Lettuce tournament, during which various styles of facial hair competed against each other. Junkies voted for their favorite style in each matchup, and the winner would be how Scott would shave his voluminous Covid Lockdown Beard so as to be compliant with CDC masking guidelines for facial hair. The winner was the Balbo, represented by Robert Downey, Jr. in the role of Tony Stark. On the April 13, 2020 show, the FDØ shared video footage of him shaving his beard in that style.

GSMOAT

From August 13, 2020 to October 20, 2020, Scott created a bracket for the Greatest Sports Movie of all Time tournament (GSMOAT), during which different sports movies competed against each other. Junkies once again voted for their favorite movie in each matchup, and the winner would be the subject of an episode of StorySmack. Caddyshack was announced as the winner on October 20, 2020, and StorySmack #59 was recorded on November 14, 2020.
