The first season of SLAY includes the pilot and introduces the main characters, supporting characters and premise of the story. Season one establishes the relationships between the characters and is a slow buildup to the mano a mano showdown between Lincoln Franks and TOMMY TWO-TOOTH, in the style of JUSTIFIED. Season one establishes the consequences of Lincoln's drug habit, and sets up the overarching plot thread that will cover all five seasons.

Anastasia Wainwright and her friend Kate attend an Ugly Christmas Sweater party, where they are drugged and bound by Dante, Chuck, and Arty. Dante eats Kate's heart. Anastasia knows she is next. Shitbird flies in, reconnoitering. Lincoln Franks, known only as "The Man in Gray" in this episode, kicks in the front door, announcing that there is a bounty on Dante's head. Lincoln tells Arty and Chuck he isn't there for them; they can go, but if they stay and fight he will cut them down. Chuck attacks and is killed. Lincoln kills Dante, cuts off his head, and places it in a rune box, which is then placed in his cloak of holding. Arty runs. The Sex Gnomes arrive to clean up the damage. Lincoln gives Anastasia a Forget-Me-Dot, which makes her pass out. When she wakes, the police tell her that Kate, Dant, and Chuck died of a drug overdose. Anastasia remembers nothing of the night's violence. She tells the police what Arty was wearing, hoping he is still alive.

Billy Middleton, encouraged by his childhood friend Joe, sets up a drug deal between local sources and Dante Oganov. At the warehouse where the deal goes down, Dante forces Billy to take a dab of nurple. Billy believes he is hallucinating when he sees Dante as a goblin and Dante's bodyguard Long-Tooth as an ogre. Lincoln (still known only as "The Man in Gray") attacks, killing Dante men, and Joe when he's standing next to Billy. Lincoln tells Billy "I ain't here for you" and lets him go. Billy runs. Lincoln kills Long-Tooth, then produces a sphere of sight, which lets Callista give Dante a warning to stay out of her city for good. She demands that Lincoln come and see her right away.
