Character Overview
A member of the AA Team, Faceless is a noppera-bō — a shapeshifting, faceless being from Japanese folklore — who attends recovery meetings at the Old Stone Church alongside Lincoln Franks.
Faceless is an emotionally complex mimic with the uncanny ability to perfectly impersonate the physical form and voice of others. Despite having no visible face, he communicates clearly and conveys emotion through subtle color shifts in his skin. While seemingly honest and courteous, his behavior suggests an undercurrent of quiet manipulation and unspoken deals — especially with Lincoln, whom he seems to both cover for and call out.
Attributes
Description
From SLAY 3: EASY KILL:
- Faceless, wearing the same ratty burlap sack he always wore. No one knew what the guy was thinking, as the eyes were the window to the soul and there were no eyes on his featureless, flat, milk-white face.
- Across the circle from Lincoln, Faceless’s featureless skin flushed with a quick burst of teal. It vanished just as quickly, the flat, blank face returning to its normal pale pink.
- “Ah, yes, Plooka-san,” Faceless said, from somewhere unseen, because he didn’t have a mouth. “I, too, have been clean as a whistle. As clean as two whistles, actually.”
- A bit of crimson blossomed in the pale skin. No eyes, no mouth, no nose, but that didn’t matter — embarrassment looked the same on him as it did on anyone with pale skin.
Personality
Faceless speaks with unnerving politeness and a subtle flair for sarcasm. He seems to enjoy playful deception but respects the unspoken rules of shared recovery. He is observant, possibly empathic, and shows flashes of emotional intelligence despite his alien nature. Though he appears compliant, Lincoln suspects Faceless lies about his sobriety — and Faceless likely suspects the same of Lincoln. Their relationship is mutually suspicious but stable, built on a shared agreement to say nothing.
