Jonas Robinson is a character in the novel titled The Crypt by author Scott Sigler. The character is initially introduced in episode five of the serialized podcast. Robinson is a private hacker who's family was murdered by Colin Walker. Jonas is posing as Petty Officer Samuel Draper in order to find Walker and seek retribution.
Robinson was once a soccer player could have played for the human pro leagues but instead settled down with his wife Kira. Before the murder of his wife, Robinson made a living hacking into peoples networks where he believed no secret was safe.
He had been away from his home for a week and decided to stop for a burger. While away an intruder entered Robinson's home. Robinson's wife, Kira, had called the emergency hotline when she realized there was an intruder but the police took 35 minutes to respond. When he arrived home, he found his wife dead with her throat slit and Walker in the act of raping her dead body. Jonas started beating Walker but the police arrived in time to stop him. As Walker was being hauled away by the police, he smiled at Robinson and told him to check the bedroom. There, Robinson found his 3 year old and 5 old children strangled.
Police records showed Walker was transferred to a military hospital but when asked the police did not know which one. Robinson hacked every military system but Walker disappeared as if he never existed. Robinson devised a way to hack into the military system by entering from behind the hardware firewall. But to accomplish this, Robinson had to access it by entering a long forgotten fallout shelter systems. He found Walker was transferred off planet to a cruiser named P.U.V. James Keeling as a pilot and realized people being stationed to the Keeling were all criminals. Robinson was so desperate to find Walker, that he fashioned the fake persona of Samuel Draper and gave him a criminal history so he could get himself stationed to the same ship.
Robinson/Draper is 41 years old, but looks older thanks to the bald top of his head and his gray sideburns. Robinson is 5-foot-10, about 210 pounds, "a little thick around the middle."
Robinson/Draper is a clever man whose current ingenuity is being driven by his desire for retribution. He is resourceful who proactively takes initiative to achieve his goals. He has lost faith in seeking justice for the murder of his wife through the judicial process and has taken matters into his own hands.
Samuel Draper was convicted of desertion. He chose to serve two years aboard the Keeling instead of serving ten years in a Naval penitentiary. This crime and sentence was contrived by Robinson to the end of tracking Colin Walker.
Before taking on the identity of Samuel Draper, Robinson made his living as a private sector hacker. He is a talented systems infiltrator.
Continuing in his innovative writing style, the character of Robinson/Draper was the result of a collaboration between authors Scott Sigler and Jeremy Robinson. The character carries the surname of co-author Jeremy Robinson in order to easily track the character through the story progression.
