Mathis Wrenn is a character in the novella Kissyman by author Scott Sigler. The character is initially introduced in episode one of the podcast.
Character Background
Mathis Wrenn is a shadowy stalker who is harassing the famous 1940's actress Beth Copenhaver. He is based at out of a warehouse in Hoboken, New Jersey. The police had little success in stopping Wrenn from stalking Copenhaver so she has enlisted the protection of a bodyguard named The Gentleman. The Gentleman hires Kissyman to take care of Wrenn.
It is not clear what motivation is causing Wrenn to stalk Copenhaver, however it seems to involve some type of occult activity.
Attributes
Outward Appearance
Details about Wrenn's appearance are sparse. However, it is known that he wears a robe similar to a priest.
Personality
Little is known about Wrenn's personality however a few details can be deduced from Wrenn's interactions with Beth Copenhaver and Kissyman. Wrenn had sent threatening letters to Copenhaver that had misspelled words. While on the surface this would suggest a person with little education or possibly low intelligence, Kissyman suspects that it may be a ruse.
Upon confronting Wrenn at his Hoboken warehouse, Kissyman doesn't find the raving madman he expected. Instead, Wrenn proved to be a lucid and intelligent man who did not display fear or submissiveness. Kissyman expected to find an emotionally troubled person but instead he found an apparent occult leader who had at least five followers. Wrenn and his follower were chanting around a blood covered shrine to Copenhaver, complete with a makeshift alter and hundreds of photos of Beth Copenhaver plastered to the wall of the warehouse.
