Overview

Tammuz corpulus is a colossal, airborne kaiju that floats through the radioactive upper atmosphere of post-kaiju Earth. Its dual feeding behavior—absorbing toxic particulates and capturing smaller flying kaiju—makes it a uniquely stable and self-sufficient member of the kaiju ecosystem. Revered by many wasteland sects, it is also the sole source of digestible biomass for humanity.

Description

  • Resembles a massive, translucent blimp or fungal sac, trailing dozens of tendrils.
  • Propelled and buoyed by internal methane and hydrogen sacks.
  • Passively harvests airborne nutrients via mucus-lined aerial tongues.

Secondary Feeding Mechanism

  • Equipped with four to six squidlike tentacles, each over 100 yards in length.
  • Tentacles deploy at high speed to snatch nearby flying kaiju, which are then crushed, partially liquefied, and absorbed through retractable gut ports.
  • This predatory behavior is rare but decisive; Tammuz is not aggressive but will defend its airspace.

Digestive Biology

  • Contains both atmospheric filtration chambers and a primary gut capable of processing organic kaiju biomass.
  • Skyloaf is formed from combined plant-based toxins and partially digested prey matter.
  • Defecation occurs once per 48-hour feeding cycle and is accompanied by temporary sphincter dilation suitable for ingress.

Strategic Importance

Tammuz's feces—known as “Skyloaf”—contains a rare balance of protein, caloric density, and enzymatic compounds compatible with human metabolism. It is harvested and processed into rations, fuel, and medical gels. Due to its aerial nature, capturing Skyloaf mid-drop or accessing the beast directly is a high-risk operation.

Ingress Protocol

  • Entry occurs during cloacal dilation event (“brown eclipse”) immediately after defecation.
  • Harvester craft must achieve precise alignment and insert through the vent before muscular resealing (approx. 3–5 seconds).
  • Additional hazards include altitude-induced pressure variance, tentacle proximity, and backblast from post-drop gas expulsion.

Cultural Impact

Worshipped by airborne cults and “Skyloafers,” feared by waste-ground survivalists, Tammuz corpulus straddles the line between god and beast. Its tentacles are seen as divine judgment by some, and its waste as holy manna. Pilots who successfully enter and exit Tammuz’s digestive tract often undergo rites of purification and earn legendary status.
