Nocturnal is a thriller / horror novel by author Scott Sigler. The novel was originally launched as a work in progress rough draft at midnight on October 31st, 2007, in podcast form. A revised version of the novel was published in by Crown Publishing in April 2012.
Synopsis
Something lives deep beneath the streets of San Francisco. Something that has been there for centuries, something that comes out at night ... to feed on the dregs of society. A sub-culture, with its own myths, its own legends of leader named The King that will lead them out of bondage, and their own demon, a hunting shadow known only as The Savior.
But the legends of The Savior's brutality have faded, the fear passed into stories told to frighten the young ones. When The King finally appears, just as foretold, the Nocturnals know their time has come -- the time to come out from under the streets and hunt humanity in the open.

Fan Art
The uniqueness of the creatures in the original 2007 version of Nocturnal inspired some Junkies to produce fan created art. The two drawings below were submitted by such junkies and help to visualize how some of the Nocturnal creatures would appear. It should be noted that the Groom's Walk art was done by Arturo Alamilla, who is also the designer of the PUV James Keeling.

Nocturnal Characters Named for Fans
Continuing in his innovative style, author Scott Sigler’s original 2007 version of the novel Nocturnal was released amid a contest where randomly chosen fans will have their names appear in his novel. The luckiest of the fans also had their character die a horrific and untimely death. The following link references a table dedicated to tracking these fan-named characters with indicators of which characters become victims.
Nocturnal Map
Unique to the original podcast version of the story of Nocturnal, the author created a Google map which specifies the location of significant events, domiciles and landmarks that are referenced within the plot. The following link references the Nocturnal Google map.
